A story fragment and a codex entry from the Dustsong Cycle
From the Annals of the Vaporous Realms
Year 1. The king of the heaven-realm had vanquished the Mother of Serpents; his scions had scattered her minions. Now the Wright brought the first-folk into being upon the earthly realm. The man Ghrem and his wife, Lae, dwelt in a verdant sanctuary high in the Fangs of Livyat. There, at the foot of the heaven-bridge, they minded the creatures, the flowers and trees, and one another.
Codex: The Heaven-Bridge
The heaven-bridge spanned the divide betwixt the earthly and heavenly realms. A magnificent tree marked either foot of the bridge. The Children of the Garden and their descendants believed that the earthly end of the structure was located in the lost garden sanctuary of Ghrem and Lae.

This post marks a shift, for now, in my approach to snippets. My hope is that these historical records from the story-world of the Vaporous Realms provide y’all a sense of continuity that has been lacking thus far. It’s less character-driven than my wont, but maybe that’s what longer-form stories are for.
