Forest-Folk
A people-group from the Dustsong Cycle
The forest-folk inhabited the wooded hills, valleys, and coastal lowlands of the Elder World between the Fangs of Livyat to the east, the sea to the west, and the taiga to the north. Their neighbors tended to dismiss them as “pale-faced barbarians” because they were a simple folk of hunters, fishers, and foragers. Forest-folk dwelt in clan villages, or isolated settlements of smaller kin-groups, that had little to no formal association.
Most, if not all, of the original forest-folk may have descended from the earliest inhabitants of the valley below the Fangs. Many valley-folk fled west during the rise of Len the Wanderer, and some likely migrated into the country beyond the Fangs.
During the War of the Accursed, which brought the first epoch to its cataclysmic end, numerous forest-folk served in the Ravager’s battle-host. This service was not always voluntary.
Most Nordlings, and thus the oldest Southron houses, were of forest-folk ancestry.
