We know a monthly subscription isn’t for everyone. Good news! If you’re a free subscriber to The Vaporous Realms here on Substack (meaning, you don’t have a paid or gift subscription), you can still read Len’s Song episodes on Kindle Vella (published as Songs of the Vaporous Realms: The Dustsong Cycle). [2023 Update: Other cycles, including Eastsong and Northsong, are now on Vella as well!]

On Kindle Vella, the first three episodes of a story are free. After that, you can use Kindle Vella tokens to unlock additional episodes if and when you choose. (Vella gives new users some free tokens; after that, they’re available to purchase in packs.) Episode costs on Vella are based on length (currently, 1 token per 100 words).

Sure, reading our stories on Vella isn’t exactly the same as a paid or complimentary subscription here. Substack gives you first access to the first edition of every snippet, exclusive author notes, plus commenting and occasional other content. But the most important thing to us is that you get to read our stories, on whatever platform works best for you.
