Mapping the Songs of the Vaporous Realms
A visual peek at the world of the Realms
Hi folks!
Over the second half of 2023, we’ll be releasing some long-overdue maps to illustrate and supplement our Vaporous Realms serials and books.
Like with our stories, we’ll probably always look at the maps we share as works in progress. Nearly everything we post can be regarded as the official, definitive version—until one day, it’s not.
We thought we’d begin with a big-picture map to orient our readers geographically to the story-cycles as a whole. That way, you have a general notion of where Len (Dustsong), Sciito (Northsong), Zshurii (Eastsong), and Delfii (Southsong) are located relative to one another. Though, keep in mind their stories don’t all take place in the same time period. Moreover, the exact locations of these civilizations shifts over time, too.
On that note—funny enough, immediately upon completing this map, we realized it shows Eastsong taking place to the west of Westsong. This is decidedly awkward. Without getting too spoilery, it’s a function of migrations and the world of the Realms being round. Even so, feel free to enjoy a good chortle over this lack of visual-spatial foresight.
Hopefully this and future maps, whatever their shortcomings and idiosyncrasies, will enhance your experience of the Vaporous Realms stories!
