Spright
A spirit-being from the Dustsong, Eastsong, and Westsong Cycles
A spright was a spirit-being of the unseen realm. Spright most often referred to a spirit of lesser significance or power, whether benign or malevolent. In the Elder World of the first epoch, and later the Redeemed kingdoms of the Fledgling World, folk applied the term to smaller varieties of deer.
When lost-folk ventured into the tundra of the Elder World, they attached their notion of sprights to the nature spirits the tundra-folk revered. Many folk of the Lost Kingdom thereby came to believe that the greatest of Livyat’s minions were earth-sprights accursed and estranged from the unseen realm.
In the military parlance of the Lost Kingdom, a spright was a short arrow—the notion being that it appeared of a sudden, as if from thin air.
