Visual Inspiration: The Stone-Beast
The prehistoric inspiration for Big Len
Hi readers!
Rather than attempt to illustrate a stone-beast from scratch (with six episodes waiting to be finished!), we decided it was better for everyone involved if we simply shared our original inspiration for the Vaporous Realms critters we call stone-beasts.
So, meet the paraceratherium: a prehistoric hornless rhino, aka “the giraffe rhino.” As you can imagine, an animal that size would have preferred to have a forest nearby. And in the story world, stone-beasts like woodlands, too—but hey, this is fantasy. And who knows, maybe this particular stone-beast was adopted by a caravan of camels as a calf. Whatever the case, Big Len has learned to adapt to the wandering wastes.
If you want, you can find some more info on Big Len’s real-world inspiration at Dinopedia (because Nat Geo’s article has a paywall).
Let us know if you have any questions about this or other creatures so far in the world of the Vaporous Realms!
