Aurochs
A creature from the Dustsong, Eastsong, and Westsong Cycles
An aurochs was a long-horned bovine comparable in height to human-folk and in overall size to steppe-beasts—though with little to none of the shaggy hair typical of the latter.
Aurochses were useful as beasts of burden and for their beef and leather. Many of the valley-folk who dwelt below the Fangs of Livyat herded long-horns from the earliest days. Certain desert-folk clans, notably the Stone Pickers, also kept aurochses.
Steppe-folk learnt the practice of herding bovines from the lost-folk, and aurochs ranching proved a popular occupation for steppe-folk of the Lost Kingdom. Aurochs hide became the favored leather of Lost Kingdom infantry companies.
Among the folk of the Fangs, the Lost Kingdom, and the Redeemed Kingdoms, Duiz was often described or depicted as a colossal aurochs.
